KarKar -- List Fifty Two

I know I have been avoiding
this blog for quite a while,
stressing over what would
be the perfect ending to
this blog. Searching for
the last thing I wanted
to mention I was grateful
for in this year of gratitude,
and then it hit me.

DOORS.

Because of the classic (or
is it cliche? I find that they're
often very close,) saying
"When one door closes,
another one opens."

Recently a lot of doors
have closed for me, but
when I take a moment
and look around, there
are so many open doors
it's a little dizzying trying
to decide which ones
I want to step foot
through first.

Riding it up in MOAB
or just four-wheeling, camping, boating,
all that kind of stuff in general.
The memories and inside jokes
are what get me through the daily
stresses of life, especially lately
with my graduation approaching
way too fast for my liking.

KarKar -- List Fourty

List 40 already?
Only 12 more to go!
So I think now would
be a great time to appreciate
DETERMINATION.

This blog began with five of us,
an idea from our mom to challenge
one another to post something here
once a week, every week, for a year.

It was originally created for one of us
in particular, to help drag her out of a
depression and see that there is always
something to be grateful for and live for.

It's easy to let a little thing like this blog
slip your mind when the real world is
getting rather chaotic, I get that.
That is exactly why I still try and keep up
with this challenge, and that is why I
am proud of how far each of my sisters
made it with this challenge. The fact
that they did it at all represents their
determination, and the fact that they
have stopped doing it shows their
great determination simply
lead them somewhere else. :)

Em did it for FOUR weeks,
Abby and Linzie both stayed
on top of it for EIGHT weeks, and
Madi did it for TWELVE weeks.

KarKar -- List Thirty Nine

Oops.
I missed
another week.
So now you get
two! Exciting, right?
No, not really.

This week I'm grateful for the
 UNDERDOGS
in nearly every situation. I will
always cheer for them because
it's exiting when they win, and it's
still a celebration when the don't.

B l o g s
Because they give me a chance
to view the lives and thoughts of
strangers I would most likely
never know otherwise.
Because some of them are
uplifting and inspirational and
come from people who have
something worth saying.
Because they are way to
waste time, procrastinate.
Because this blog is a place
for me to stop and think of
at least one thing once a week
that I am thankful for. :)

KarKar -- List Thirty Six

 H e l p

I personally believe
that helping someone
is probably one of the
best feelings you can
get out of life.
However, the next best
feeling I think is definitely
being helped. Many hands
do make light work, but
they also make the work
more enjoyable too. :)
So thank you for
everyone that has helped
me though out the last
eighteen years of my
existence, especially
when it comes to school
because in about thirteen
weeks I will be graduating
from high school and there
are many people I could
not have done with out.

the ugly color, terrible smell and goopiness.

KarKar -- List Thirty Four

B e i n g   M e

That's right.
I think everyone
should be proud
of themselves,
and I have worked
rather hard to get here.

There are days where
I feel like some kind
of mutant loser,
of course.
That's human,
but when I stop
and take a look at
my life and my progress,
even when I feel kind of
lost and beaten down by
all the things going on
right now, and
I realize yet again
that I have changed.

I may not have a
full-ride to college
handed to me, but
I know that I can work
my way through it
with unconditional love
and support.

I may not have the
best of friends who
I can talk to about
everything and anything,
but I know the majority
of people at my school
and I listen to so many
different people everyday.
Whether it is about
how there morning went
or their latest fight
with their parents
and even too much
information about their
own personal lives,
but I learn from them.
I am there for them.

Just like I am there
for my family.
Even when we
aren't necessarily
getting along, I know
I would drop everything
for anyone of them
and be there for them.

I think of all my
community service,
of all my accomplishments
and even failures, and
even if I haven't
done my best, I know
that I can work
even harder next time.

I think
about all the choices
I could have made and
all the different paths
they would have taken
me down. Of course
I regret some, but
more often than not now
I can say that I am
proud of being me,
and that is a
really good feeling.

Last but not least,
I think of all the people
that helped me get this far,
and I am thankful
even the girl who told me
I did not belong in her group,
and then I turned around and
literally saved her life,
or the guy who told me
I belonged with him
and then never cared
to speak to me again,
and I often think about
writing them an anonymous
thank you letter, along
with stranger who smiled
at me as we passed
on the sidewalk,
and my mom for
putting up with me
and trusting her
instincts . . .
Oh, and my step-dad
who will never know
how much it meant
to me when he said
I was his little blonde.

Perhaps this blog
will do.

People are important
and you'd be surprised
how much of a difference
they can make.

Including yourself.

A Little Green Camry

In a few months
it will be my 3rd
anniversary with
my lovely car!

I know it's just
my first car and
eventually I will
end up replacing it,
but I loooooves it.

Just earlier today Linzie
and I went to WSU's
basketball bash, which
was a blast, but we left
after the first quarter
so we could head home
to the party that was
unfolding at our house. :)
(I like that word, unfolding.)

On our way home I had
promised her frosties
from Wendy's and she
also convinced me
to get her 99 cent fries.
And as she attemtpted
to feed them to me while
I was driving we had
quite a good conversation,
all accompanied with
my cow seat covers.

It was a fun little sister date,
made completely possible
by my car and my madre
for giving me money to
feed my car.

So yeah,
that is all.

The Journey of Scholarships

I missed yet another week,
but I am making up for it by
doing two again. Of course
I am not going to make it a habit,
but if you look at the title of this blog,
my excuse is sitting right there
in that one little word.

Scholarships.

Oh, what a journey it has been.
I have applied for countless
online ones that I haven't heard
back from at all, which is fine.
But I have applied for five others,
which I have already gained
so much from, even if I don't get it.

The first one was last year
when I applied and was chosen
by my schools counselors to be
the WSU Lynx scholar.
This scholarship was not only
the first realization that my life
was heading in a new direction,
but also made me feel like
I'm already one little step
inside the college world.

The second one I applied for
several months ago and that
was the Visual Arts Sterling Scholar.
I ended up being one of the three
finalists for my school with two
of my friends. It was bitter-sweet
to be the one actually chosen
and a big part of it was my
community service.
Since being chosen, I have been
invited to be a member of the
Davis Arts Council and participate
in the first official gallery of Davis County.
That was another little step
inside of my future, whatever it may be.

The third was for WSU's
Department of Visual Arts
and my mom surprised me
by getting my first art piece
officially matted, soon to be
first art piece framed and
entered in a gallery of it's own.
I wrote a Bad-A art statement
with the major help of my mom too,
and then moved on to quite an
intimidating and exciting interview.

The fourth was the reciprocal
of my Lynx Scholarship, which
is the WSU Ambassadors.
Just yesterday I finished the
application with more help from
my madre and edited by my grandma.
This one, if I get it, would be
a full ride and a small stipend
each semester that would probably
cover my books, so cross your fingers!

The fifth one was for Delta
employee dependents and it
was by far the easiest because I
was able to pull from all the other
ones that I've already made and
my mom made sure it was post-marked
and sent off today.

At this point, even if I got
absolute no money from any of it,
I feel like I have accomplished
so much and the support from
my mom and the rest of my family
has been way happy making. :)

KarKar -- List Thirty One

G a l l e r i e s
All week I have been
going to meetings every night
to collect the art from nine artists
and arrange them on the wall
and figure out the lighting
and everything with the
Davis Arts Council
Snow Horse Gallery Committee.
Tonight was the opening,
and it was definitely bigger
than I had imagined.
There was a ribbon cutting
for the opening of the first gallery
and there was live classical music
and candles and flowers
on every table.
My art friends and I
all felt very happy to just
be there and soak it all in.
Now it's time to start
thinking about our next gallery
in May and what we can do better.
:)

KarKar -- List Thirty

S o c k s !
Because when they fit perfect,
they make that much of a difference.
You can tell a lot about
a person by their socks.
Like if they're long, short,
mix-matched, colorful, plain.
 Yeah, I'm a goof. :)

KarKar -- List Twenty Nine

 H o n e s t y

I'm not gonna lie
I completely spaced
last weeks list.

That's a first

However, I'll make it up
by doing two this weekend. :)
It's important to prioritize
and I haven't let this blog
become a chore yet,
it's something I actually
look forward to doing.

Anyway, one thing my mom
has stressed ever since
we were way little and
couldn't look over the counter,
is that it is always better
to tell the whole truth,
even if you're bound
to get in trouble.

She guaranteed us
that if we lied about it,
we would be in even more trouble
and guess what guys!

She is right!

I'm pretty sure this rule
can be applied in every
aspect of my life.
